Jurassic Park III storms the US box office

The third film in the Jurassic Park series has opened in the States with a mammoth (excuse the pun) box office take of $19 million on its first day. To put that into perspective, the second highest film of the day, and last week's number one film Legally Blonde, only managed to pocket a puny $2.7 million. Such an opening high promises well for the film, which opens in the UK today. Jurassic Park III's predecessor, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, is the only film to have beaten that figure with a whopping $21.6 million on its first day - it went on to gross an all-time opening figure high of $90.1 million.
