This year, one of the biggest breakout hits at the box office was Meryl Streep’s comedy The Devil Wears Prada. So what is Fox planning to do? No, not knock off a sequel (yet), but turn it into a TV show.

Robin Schiff, who penned Romy And Michelle’s High School Reunion, has been hired to knocked up a pilot script for a half-hour sitcom. But don’t go looking for an exact copy of the film. According to Fox TV president Angela Shapiro-Mathes, it’ll have its own identity: "That becomes a mistake," she told Variety. "The TV series will not be exactly like the movie or the book. The reason you loved the book and the reason you loved the movie was these were characters you really cared about in a world you wanted to learn more about. You can't read that book and not feel that the two characters are ones that you want to keep following. It's something you can get really passionate about."

Just one thing – US TV already has a show about a savvy but fashion-insensible person being thrust into the world of clothes mags – it’s called Ugly Betty, it has Salma Hayek as a producer and it’s getting huge ratings already. Is there room for two shows about the same subject? It’s America, there are 354 flavours of CSI, so anything’s possible.
