Though it didn't take long for The Invisible Man Leigh Whannell director to come aboard the next take on a Wolfman film for Universal, which has Ryan Gosling aboard to star, scheduling issues mean he won't actually end up making the movie. Never fear, though, as Gosling has reached out to an old friend – and Derek Cianfrance is now attached.

Cianfrance, who made Blue Valentine and The Place Within the Pines with the actor, might seem a surprising chance to bring the classic monster to the screen, since he's shown little inclination towards the horror genre. But according to the director, he's ready. Horror movies were my first love — my entry into what cinema was capable of narratively, psychologically and aesthetically," he tells Deadline "Coupled with the opportunity to collaborate with Ryan again, this is truly a dream come true. I’m thrilled and inspired to work with the good folks at Blumhouse and Universal to bring this monster back to life in our collective unconscious."

Details of the movie remain sketchy – it'll likely be a present day take, and Gosling was one of those figuring out the story for the new project, with Cianfrance writing the eventual script.
