Given the title, you might expect The Devil Has A Name to be a demonic tale of horror and supernatural threats. Yet in actual fact, Edward James Olmos' latest film as actor and director is an environmental tale more along the lines of 2013's Promised Land, albeit with a funnier tint. He's recruited David Strathairn to co-star with him in the dark comedy.
The Devil follows what happens when an unhinged oil baron gets into a bruising confrontation with a farmer (Strathairn) after the latter's water is poisoned by her company. Partly based on a true story and scripted by Rob McEveety, it'll also see Olmos playing Santiago, a Mexican immigrant and confidant of Strathairn's character.
With all the financing in place, the next step will be to find a distributor, and the movie will be offered up to potential handlers at this year's Berlin Film Festival next month. Strathairn is on TV screens in McMafia and plays President Roosevelt in Darkest Hour. Olmos, recently seen in Blade Runner 2049 and heard in Coco, has A Dog's Way Home and a small role in The Predator headed our way this year.
