After working together for a second time on the Oscar-nominated Martin Luther King Jr. drama Selma, David Oyelowo and writer/director Ava DuVernay are looking to keep the collaboration going. They’re currently putting together the details for an untitled film set around Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
With DuVernay set to write, produce and direct and Oyelowo making a deal to produce and star in the film, the details are limited right now, although according to Variety it will combine a murder mystery and a love story likely to have some smart things to say about the conflicted racial politics of the storm, the attendant evacuation of the city and the fate of those who had little choice but to stay as the winds and waters raged.
“The story we’re interested in will explore the complexities of intimate relationships within times of chaos, while also examining the chaos itself,” says DuVernay. "I’m looking forward to the journey.” This will mark the third time they’ve worked together, after 2012’s Middle Of Nowhere. There’s no word on when the new film will start shooting.
Oyelowo is on screens in** A Most Violent Year**, with** Selma **due here on February 6. He'll also be seen in music biopic Nina, drama Five Nights In Maine and crime thriller Captive.
