Another day, another videogame adaptation. Ho-hum and meh, you say, but you may eat those noises when you hear the news that the noirish crime adventure Heavy Rain** is being written for the screen by David Milch, the brains behind HBO's awe-inspiring Deadwood and upcoming racing drama Luck.

The hugely critically acclaimed Heavy Rain is a PS3 exclusive mystery thriller, following four characters on the trail of serial murderer The Origami Killer. An attempt at "interactive fiction" (as opposed to something simple and shooty and explode-y), its creator David Cage explains, "This is not a game about saving the princess or the world. The question of what is good and what is evil is the key here. I believe heavily in moral choices. They're not about being good or bad, but about finding the right balance."

So you can see why Milch, not averse to a bit of heavyweight moral drama himself or to juggling complex narratives between multiple characters, might have been tempted to take the project on. Heavy Rain is on a fast-track at Warner Bros, with Bob Shaye (Lord of the Rings, Nightmare on Elm Street) producing. "David Milch's ability to create gripping popular drama makes him the perfect partner for us," he gushed.

Milch will get cracking once Luck's first season is in the bag.
