Will Smith and Joel Edgerton

They recently worked together on Warner Bros. and DC's Suicide Squad and it looks like director David Ayer and star Will Smith are ready to reunite for fantastical cop thriller Bright, which will also star Joel Edgerton.

Not much is known about the script thus far, as written by Chronicle and American Ultra's Max Landis. But it's reportedly a modern day cop thriller with magical elements, and promises to be something quite different from your usual crime story. Landis wrote the script on spec, dedicated the title page to Ayer (and JRR Tolkien, as seen on the title page below) and now, through some dark magic (or Hollywood dealmaking), he's attached.

This one is now out to studios, and we'd predict that one will snap it up quickly given the names attached, and particularly on the back of healthy buzz for Suicide Squad. That will be out here on August 5. Edgerton, meanwhile, is back on our screens in Jeff Nichols' Midnight Special, due April 8. As for Landis, his directorial debut Me Him Her arrives in US cinemas next week.
