Don’t you just hate it when you complete a piece of work really conscientiously, only to have fancy-pants work colleague or school pupil grab it, stick their name on it and claim it as theirs?

All right, so perhaps writer Dan Gordon isn’t feeling exactly that way right now, but after attending the trial of crooked cop Louis Eppolito and adapting the imprisoned officer’s book (Mafia Cop: The Story Of An Honest Cop Whose Family Was the Mob), he’s now had to hand over his screenplay to David Ayer, who will re-write and direct the film – called simply Mafia Cop - for Universal.

And if you’re going to bring in any fancy-pants, then Ayer’s hardly a bad choice. The man who wrote Training Day and then did double duty on Harsh Times seems a top choice to handle the tail of a copper who was sent down for murder, conspiracy to murder, money laundering and drug dealing. Once Ayer has completed his work on the screenplay, he'll start shooting - though there's no cast attached yet.
