He'll be one of the bad guys

Since James Franco is always so busy with the approximately 73,000 things he has to occupy his time, he can only take so many film roles. Thank goodness, then, that there’s a backup Franco, in the shape of James’s brother Dave. And he’s just scored a role as a villain on 21 Jump Street.

The younger Franco has been seen in films such as Greenberg, Charlie St Cloud and Superbad, and also cropped up for a small role in Milk. TV-wise, he starred in the final, med-school-set season of doc-comedy Scrubs.

His exact role on Jump Street isn’t yet known, but since he’s a bad guy, we’re guessing he’ll be part of a gang run by (if he locks in his deal) Rob Riggle’s scheming, two-faced drug crusader.

Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Brie Larson and Ice Cube are starring in the comedy take on the TV show, which finds Hill and Tatum as cops investigating crime around a local high school.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are scheduled to kick off directing the movie this week, and the rumours are continuing to spread that Johnny Depp – who starred in the TV version back in the 1980s – will be making a cameo in some form or other, though that appears to be up in the air thanks to Depp’s busy schedule.
