The SNL crew start up a movie

Andy Samberg, who has recently leapt from being a fresh comedy face with online laugh squad The Lonely Island to one of the only funny people on the current Saturday Night Live line-up, is making another jump.

He’s signed up to star in Hot Rod, which will see him star as crash-prone daredevil planning to emulate his hero (Evel Kinevel) and jump a huge river on his moped. He’s hoping it’ll impress his tough-to-please step dad. Jorma Taccone, also working on SNL and a former Lonely Island member, is also starring, and the pair are working with director Akiva Schaffer who – you guessed it – used to appear with them in Lonely Island and now works for SNL.

Pam Brady (nothing to do with Lonely Island and better known for helping to write South Park) has written the script.
