Fresh from bagging a BAFTA for his bravura performance in Gangs of New York, Daniel Day-Lewis has given up on his famed reclusiveness and been persuaded to jump in front of the camera again by no less than his wifey, director Rebecca Miller. Letting slip to Empire Online on BAFTA night that his next project was on the verge of being announced, the Oscar-nominated Day-Lewis will star in Rose and the Snake and will be the first time he has collaborated with his wife on film. A director of well known repute for films such as Sundance favourite Personal Velocity, as well as the daughter of famous playwright Arthur Miller, Rebecca Miller also boasts co-writer credit for the tale set in an abandoned commune on an island off the northwest coast of Canada. Day-Lewis will portray the father of a 16-year-old daughter called Rose who lives on the commune where he has tried to shield his offspring from the modern world. His cotton wool approach is more than scuppered, however, when he makes the rather large mistake of bringing a lover and her two sons to live with them. And before you know it, Rose undergoes a sexual awakening with all the liberating and devastating consequences you could imagine.
