Focus Features is eyeing a quality cast for its latest endeavour. Vanessa Redgrave, Toni Collette and Claire Danes are all in the frame for the company’s adaptation of Susan Minot’s massive-selling novel Evening.
Oscar-nominated Hungarian director Lajos Koltai will be ordering them around in a tale of a 65-year-old cancer patient, Ann Grant Lord (Redgrave) who is looking back at the weekend in which she met the love of her life, while daughters Ann and Nina (Collette and Danes) try to deal with her condition and their own lives.
Focus has Minot and a man who knows a lot about writing complex stories for women – The Hours’ Michael Cunningham – finishing up the script, with the film due to start shooting once the cast is locked down.
