Whit Stillman has only made four films in the last 21 years; he's like the Terrence Malick of mannerist comedy. Here though, 14 years on from The Last Days Of Disco, we finally have a trailer for Damsels In Distress, a university-set saga starring Greta Gerwig{ =nofollow}, Adam Brody and Analeigh Tipton.

The film is nominally about a group of it-girls who set out to put their cheery stamp on university life, not least by organising tap classes for the potentially suicidal. As with all Stillman's films though, there's a healthy dose of snarky American class satire lurking not far beneath the surface.

Back when he announced production, Stillman said the tiny budget precluded any 'names' in the cast, but since her stand-out turns in the likes of Greenberg, No Strings Attached, The Dish And The Spoon and even Arthur, that's now sounding a bit unfair to Gerwig, who looks like she owns this.

Damsels In Distress played at the BFI London Film Festival last autumn, and gets its full UK release on April 27.
