You may not really believe the world needs another National Lampoon’s Vacation, but New Line has been plotting one for a few years. Now the script has a director – well, directors – in John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.
The names should be familiar if you’ve either been tracking the progress of the Vacation film or if you saw Horrible Bosses, as the pair worked on both.
In fact, they’ve been the only writers attached to Vacation since 2009, pumping out a script that will serve as a hybrid sequel to and reboot of the original, with a grown up Rusty Griswold getting into his own travel-related misadventures.
While neither Daley nor Goldstein has directed much beyond a short they wrote and worked on together, they’ve both either written or acted for several big names, including Judd Apatow. They’ve also been kicking around the script circuit for a while now, working on such in-development titles as The $40,000 Man and Cal Of The Wild. And they most recently collaborated on the screenplay for Steve Carell / Jim Carrey feuding magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.
Vacation (minus the National Lampoon bit) had originally nabbed the services of David Dobkin to direct and produce, but he’s since moved on. Daley and Goldstein will finish up work on a **Horrible Bosses **sequel before they dive into the crazy world of preparing their film-directing debut.
