As if her Star Wars parentage wasn't enough of an issue, Daisy Ridley is headed for a new psychological thriller that will find her dealing with a troubled father. She's signed on to star in The Marsh King's Daughter.

Neil Burger is directing the film, which has a script adapted from Karen Dionne's bestseller by Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith. Ridley will star as Helena, a woman living a seemingly ordinary life, but hiding a dark secret: her father is the infamous “Marsh King,” the man who kept her and her mother captive in the wilderness for years. After a lifetime of trying to escape her past, Helena is forced to face her demons when her father unexpectedly escapes from prison.

There are shades of Room here, and the story could allow for Ridley to go to darker places than even her franchise work allows. She'll next be seen in Chaos Walking, due to arrive on 5 March.
