While James Wan has been working on Aquaman, he’s been keeping the wheels turning on his horror projects as producer. Earlier this year we got The Nun and Insidious: The Last Key, and now get ready for The Curse Of La Llorona. Drawing on Mexican folklore, the film looks set to introduce a new spectre to the horror lexicon: ‘The Weeping Woman’, a tearful ghost who drowned her children in life and now exists in purgatory, draws in kids with her cries to prey on them. The first trailer has just arrived, and you can watch it right here:

The Curse Of La Llorona is set in the ‘70s in LA, following social worker Anna (Linda Cardellini) who’s warned by a troubled mother about the Weeping Woman – and then finds her own kids in the spirit’s sights. The teaser starts off like a typical trailer, before zoning in on an extended set-piece that manages to make windy window handles unsettling. The film is the feature directorial debut of Michael Chaves, under the banner of Wan’s Atomic Monster Productions. Here’s hoping this film proves Chaves’ as a fruitful director – his next project is The Conjuring 3.

The Curse of La Llorona will stalk into cinemas in April 2019.
