Spanish heartthrobs Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz, will be joining forces for a somewhat offbeat sci-fi project, when they are reunited with fellow countryman Pedro Almodovar in Tarantula. Agustin Almodovar - the film's producer and brother to Pedro - announced at Cannes that the project, which was optioned by the brothers more than a year ago, will now be getting started with Cruz and Banderas in starring roles. Based on a French novel, Tarantula is a thriller set about ten years hence, the film tells the story of a plastic surgeon who, understandably upset by the rape of his daughter, gets hold of the perpetrator and performs a forced sex-change operation upon him. Certainly be one to watch, if only out of some perverse curiosity. Thanks to ScreenDaily.com{ =nofollow}.
