Another day, another new film about the war in Iraq.

Paramount and Cruise/Wagner productions have optioned the New York Times Magazine article The Fall Of The Warrior King by Dexter Filkins.

The piece focuses on Lieutenant Colonel Nathan Sassaman, a commander in Baghdad who resigned after a scandal that saw men under his command cause the drowning of an Iraqi.

Playwright Stephen Belber (who wrote The Power Of Duff, a drama that Ron Howard and Russell Crowe are considering) is handling the script and Cruise will consider starring – he’s the right age for the role. And the writer is clearly passionate about his material: “I'd been searching for something that could capture the absurdity of this particular war," Belber told Variety.
