David Cronenberg is planning to adapt the Don DeLillo novel Cosmopolis for the screen, turning the somewhat surreal story of a multimillionaire on a road trip around Manhattan into a no-doubt somewhat-surreal film.

The story sees master of the universe Eric Packer attempting to go for a haircut in his limousine, and finding his path blocked by a Presidential visit and the funeral of a rapper. Amid cheating on his wife and developing a severe paranoia that someone is trying to kill him, Packer provides a caustic look at the American dream during a sort of 24-hour odyssey, if that is not a contradiction in terms.

The film's due to shoot next year in Toronto and New York, so look out for this in 2011 or thereabouts.
