Casting on Oliver Stone's W continues apace. After the announcement of Elizabeth Banks as Laura Bush yesterday, the director has now lined up James Cromwell and Ellen Burstyn to play George and Barbara Bush, the President's parents.

The Variety story reporting this casting calls the film "a drama about the formative years of their son", which might suggest this film will cover his ascent to Presidency, rather than his time in office.

That would make a lot of sense. Partly because there is a lot of meaty story in Bush Jr's past including reported problems with alcohol, time running a baseball team and several unsuccessful attempts at gaining political power. Josh Brolin, who is playing Bush Jr, may have to de-aged a little for some of that, since some of the bigger events are before or around his 30th birthday. Also, an account of his time in office would be more complete if it were made after he left office, which will be next year.
