While you couldn’t exactly call him a surprise, since he’d previously been funny in the likes of Pineapple Express, Walk Hard and on The Office, Craig Robinson is finally getting a juicy film role, signing on to We the Peoples opposite Kerry Washington and David Alan Grier.

Peeples, written by Drumline’s Tina Gordon Chism (who is stepping up to wield the megaphone this time around), finds Robinson as a child psychologist who decides it would be fun to surprise his girlfriend (Washington) at her annual family reunion. But what he discovers is that everyone there is in need of therapy.

Chism will start calling the shots this November in Connecticut and, thanks to a deal with Tyler Perry’s studio, will get a release in the US via Lionsgate.
