Universal arm picks up fantasy

Universal’s speciality arm Focus Features is aiming to grab its own slice of the animation pie, and they’ve picked a great project to start with.

They’ve bought the rights to the stop-motion epic based on Neil Gaiman’s tale Coraline. Stop-motion genius Henry Selick – who brought us The Nightmare Before Christmas and James And The Giant Peach, has been hard at work on the movie for months, with Dakota Fanning voicing the main character.

Coraline is a little girl who wanders through a secret door in her new home and discovers a parallel world much like her own – but with hidden dangers.
