With anOscar nomination under his belt for Silver Linings Playbook and a massive franchise hit with the Hangover films, Bradley Cooper is a man with no little power in Hollywood right now. He’s using some of that clout to have Warner Bros. snap up Howard Blum’s book Dark Invasion as a star vehicle to develop.

Blum’s tome is a real-life spy thriller set in 1915. Germany, mired deep in war with Europe, is concerned that America will ditch its neutral stance and step in to help the allies.

So the country sends its Secret Service to the US in an attempt to stop the States turning the tide of the conflict. The Kaiser’s agents destroy factories, scupper ships, bomb the Capitol Building in Washington, set up an anthrax lab near the White House and shoot JP Morgan, whose wealthy pockets were helping to fund the allied War effort. Those bally rotters!

Assuming it all works out, Cooper will play New York police officer Tom Tunney, the man tasked with bringing the spies to justice. The book will hit shelves in September this year and Cooper’s producing the project for Warners via his company.

He’ll next be seen in Derek Cianfrance’s **The Place Beyond The Pines **alongside Ryan Gosling (due April 12) and then is back in The Hangover Part III, which will stumble bleary-eyed into cinemas on May 24.
