With the success of Crazy Rich Asians helping to open more doors for film work, Constance Wu has most recently been at the centre of a minor scandal, with social media posts from her suggesting she was unhappy that her day job, on sitcom Fresh Off The Boat, had been renewed, denying her some big screen opportunities. She’ll likely be squeezing a new gig into time off from the series, as she’s scored the lead in Goodbye, Vitamin.

Jennifer Yee McDevitt adapted Rachel Khong’s debut novel, which landed on a host of Book Of The Year list after its publication in 2017. The story follows Wu’s character, Ruth Young, who discovers that her father, a renowned history professor, has lost his job after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She decides to return home and work with her father’s former student to stage a fake class so he can continue to teach.

Wu will also be seen alongside Jennifer Lopez in Hustlers, which makes its way to the UK on 13 September.
