If your life has been sadly bereft of men in muttonchops arguing about the law and scenes of people plotting to assassinate Abraham Lincoln, fear not! Robert Redford rides to the rescue with the trailer for his latest film, The Conspirator, which you can watch below if you believe in the witchcraft of the magical Interwebs.

Set in the chaos that befell Washington after Lincoln’s ill-fated trip to the theatre, The Conspirator aims to follow the real events around Frederick Aiken (James McAvoy), a Union veteran of the Civil War and freshly anointed lawyer who is handed a tricky client.

Mary Surratt (Robin Wright) is the woman in question, a boarding house owner who has been arrested and charged with aiding and abetting the group who planned and carried out the killing, including John Wilkes Booth. But as he digs into the case, Aiken discovers that all is not quite as it seems, and Mary may really being used as bait so the authorities can capture the one conspirator who escaped – her son, John.

Take a look at the trailer below and let us know your opinion.

We can make all the bearded gags we want, but this looks solid and hopefully will represent a rebound for Redford after Lions for Lambs. Plus it boasts a cast that includes Tom Wilkinson, Evan Rachel Wood, Kevin Kline, Alexis Biedel, Johnny Simmons, Stephen Root and Colm Meaney (always good to see him getting work). **The Conspirator **is out in the US on April 15, but there’s no set date for the UK yet.
