There's a twist to the new Conjuring 2 spin-off, The Nun. When Taissa Farmiga was cast to play a young nun in the new horror, we wondered if she'd be the person who ends up becoming the terrifying creature. But word that Bonnie Aarons, who portrayed the nun's demonic form in James Wan's sequel, is joining the new movie's cast has us pondering if the filmmakers are taking a different route.

Corin Hardy is directing The Nun, with Farmiga and Demian Bichir set to star. The addition of Aarons' nun – who was a last-minute replacement for another scary character when Wan decided to make a change during re-shoots – means that the spin-off ties in even more closely. Quite how she'll appear is being kept a religious secret right now, known only to those who have read the script by Wan and Gary Dauberman.

With the cameras set to roll in Romania this May, the story will see Bichir's Father Burke dispatched by Rome to investigate the mysterious death of a habit-wearer. So perhaps Farmiga's character will help investigate what happened? We'll find out more as the trailers etc. arrive, but the film itself will be out on in 2018.
