In another blow to cinema chains, Paramount has sold long-anticipated Eddie Murphy comedy sequel Coming 2 America to Amazon Studios, and the film will debut on the company's streaming service in December.

The film, directed by Craig Brewer, finds Murphy reprising the role of Prince Akeem, who is now is set to become king of the fictional country of Zamunda when he discovers he has a son he never knew about in America — a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler). To honor the former king’s dying wish to groom his grandson as the crown prince, Akeem and Arsenio Hall's Semmi set off to America.

Tracy Morgan, Wesley Snipes and James Earl Jones are all among the cast for the film, which had been in development for years, but finally looked set to arrive in cinemas later this year. The deals are all still being hammered out, but it marks the latest sale for Paramount, which previously shifted The Trial Of The Chicago 7 and The Lovebirds to Netflix, while the Michael B. Jordan-starring Without Remorse landed at Amazon.
