Clue (1985)

The second attempt to fashion a movie from Cluedo – known as Clue in the States, hence the title for the 1985 version – has not had the easiest journey getting to screens. Now 20th Century Fox is hoping it can solve the case.

Variety has confirmed word that was first sent by The Tracking Board that game company Hasbro, frustrated after years of development and lack of movement at Universal, has shifted the project to its new studio home. Universal had focused on game adaptations as part of its deal with Hasbro, but after one success (Ouija) and one megaflop (Battleship), the studio got cold feet. Gore Verbinski was attached as director, but he's no longer involved.

The plot is still a mystery at this point, though it may hew closely towards the game's basics of colourful characters (Professor Plum, Mrs. Green, Colonel Mustard), who are wrapped up in a murder mystery. There is reportedly thought that it could break out of the mansion house format and become a bigger, more action-packed adventure film, but all that remains under wraps.
