Chu Looks To Be A Master Of The Universe

Despite possessing a powerful magic sword and the ability transform into a super heroic Adonis figure Prince Adam – and his alter ego He-Man hasn’t seemingly had the wherewithal to feature in a decent movie or keep the current version of Masters Of The Universe out of the development forest. Now Sony is hoping that Jon M Chu might be the man to help out.

Chu, of course, has had his own issues recently, as his latest film, G.I. Joe: Retaliation was unexpectedly yanked from the release schedule and sent back to the cine-factory for some 3D re-tooling and possibly the addition of extra footage. It'll now see the inside of cinemas on March 29 next year.

But Sony still wants to snag his services for the latest iteration of the Mattel toy line, which has seen various writers (a draft called Grayskull by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch has floated around) and directors including John Woo come and go.

And while the flop-tastic 1987 Masters Of The Universe effort saw He-Man and friends battling Skeletor on Earth, the new one is aimed at maintaining the toy / cartoon’s setting of Eternia. Can it actually work? We’ll have to wait to see…
