It’s been a while since we’ve had a new comedy from Christopher Guest – 2013 TV effort Family Tree only lasted a season and his most recent film was 2006’s For Your Consideration. So we’re happy to learn that Netflix is backing a new movie, announcing that Guest is working on **Mascots.

Not much is known about the plot or who might be in it, but Netflix’s tweet about the film contains the following basic concept: “Welcome to all the drama, intrigue and occasional excitement of the 8th World Mascot Association Championships, where a group of ‘unusual’ men and women, with big heads and furry suits, compete to win the prestigious Gold Fluffy Award and be crowned best mascot in the world.”

It definitely feels like it’ll be along the lines of **Best In Show **et al, and will hopefully live up to the consistently entertaining standards of that and Waiting For Guffman. No cast is mentioned, but we’d shocked if it didn’t at least include some of Guest’s usual ensemble, which traditionally numbers Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, Fred Willard, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Jim Piddock and more amongst its ranks. Netflix will stream the film starting next year.
