Remember Melissa Joan Hart in Sabrina The Teenage Witch? The credits montage with all of those ultra-‘90s outfits? The janky mechanical Salem cat? Well, put all of that out of your mind, because Netflix’s new take on the sorceress – Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina – looks much, much spookier. The streaming service has created a new series with the team behind neon-lit Archie comics adaptation Riverdale, based on the 2014 comic book reinvention of the character. The first trailer has just arrived, and it looks darker and scarier than perhaps anyone expected.
Witches, pentagrams, a goat-headed man, a vision of what looks like hell… they weren’t kidding about Chilling Adventures. Playing the teenage witch this time is Kiernan Shipka, with the synopsis teasing that on Sabrina’s not-so-sweet 16th birthday, she’ll have to "choose between the path of light and the path of night". Something tells us she'll pick night. The first poster for the series has also arrived, continuing the ‘bleakest birthday ever’ theme of the trailer.
In true Netflix style, the entire series will be dropping in full on 26 October – just in time for Halloween.
