The team behind John Wick are staking quite a claim on the action movie landscape these days: John Wick Chapter 2 enjoyed rave reviews; director David Leitch has been given the Deadpool 2 gig – and before that, Leitch is working on a slick-looking new action movie, with Charlize Theron in the lead. Atomic Blonde is the result, and we’ve been treated to a second trailer, featuring a killer soundtrack and an inventive use of a stiletto.

Based on the the graphic novel The Coldest City by Antony Johnston and Sam Hart, the film – set just before the fall of the Berlin Wall – sees Theron as Agent Lorraine Broughton, a highly-skilled intelligence agent called into action when a fellow spook is killed. Cue a deadly game of double-crossing agents, global agendas, and copious amounts of ass-kicking. The emphasis on every film from the 87Eleven team – the stunt company founded by Leitch and Chad Stahelski – is for practical effects over CGI, and that’s clearly evident here.

With James McAvoy, John Goodman, Toby Jones and Sofia Boutella also in the cast, Atomic Blonde punches its way into UK cinemas on 11 August. Keep your eyes for an exclusive trailer breakdown landing on this very website imminently.
