He’s currently on our screens piloting a giant robot to smash the living heck out of massive monsters in Pacific Rim, but Charlie Hunnam appears to aspire to time as a police officer. He’s attached to star in John Hillcoat’s **Triple Nine.

The title refers to an officer calling for urgent assistance, and the plot finds Hunnam’s cop targeted by criminals who figure they can kill an LAPD cop to divert his colleagues from a heist their colleagues are pulling across town.

In addition to Hunnam, Hillcoat is locking down an impressive cast with Christoph Waltz in talks to play Hunnam’s uncle, a fellow cop, and Cate Blanchett considering the role of a mobster’s Lady Macbeth-style wife.

The director has been trying to get this one moving for a while now, and had Lawless’s Shia LaBeouf attached for a while. Now with a rewritten script in hand, he’s itching to start shooting by the end of the year, especially since Hunnam will be off to work with Pacific Rim’s Guillermo del Toro on **Crimson Peak **next year. He’s also been busy working on the latest season of Sons Of Anarchy, which hits US screens in September.
