You've got your Star Wars, your Lord Of The Rings, your Harry Potter... but not all Lego sets are based on licensed properties these days. The company's original **Ninjago **line has been popular enough to have already built up to a Cartoon Network series and a Nintendo game, and it's now set to be the basis of the second Lego movie at Warner Bros. Charlie Bean, director of the Cartoon Network's Tron: Uprising series, will be putting the pieces together{
Lego first attempted a short-lived Ninja line in the late '90s, but dropped it after a couple of years, only replacing it with Ninjago in 2011. **Ninjago **abandons the first series' apparent medieval Japanese setting in favour of a more fantastical world that has helicopters and motorbikes. The set-up has Ninjas and Samurai fighting skeleton armies, dragons, snake-men, and the evil warlord Lord Gamadon, who's been banished to the Underworld and understandably wants to get back to Ninjagoland.
Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the directors of the other Lego Movie, will be producing this, along with franchise masterminds Dan Lin and Roy Lee. Jill Wilfert, Lego's liaison with the movie world, is executive producing. Dan and Kevin Hageman, who have a story credit on** The Lego Movie**, will be writing the Ninjago screenplay.
There's no release date for Ninjago as yet, but the first Lego Movie will be out in the UK on February 14 next year.
