Name one film you wouldn’t expect to be getting the sequel treatment. Chances are The Butterfly Effect might be high on that list. The film’s plot saw Ashton Kutcher’s Evan Treborn jumping about in his own past, only to find that the changes he makes have far-reaching – and often terrible – consequences for his present.
But no – New Line is indeed working on a sequel. The Butterfly Effect 2 will star Erica Durrance (Smallville) and Eric Lively as new characters not connected with the original story. But the rough concept remains. John Leonetti will direct.
Evan’s story, however, will continue. The US Sci Fi Channel is planning an eponymous spin-off, which will follow the adventures of Treborn as he continues to try and sort his life out. Ashton won’t be starring, but a cast has yet to be announced.
