Filming is already underway on Robert Redford's The Conspirator, and the impressive cast keeps getting bigger. We knew James McAvoy was playing Frederick Aiken, the lawyer assigned to defend Robin Wright Penn's Mary Surratt in the trial following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, while Justin Long recently joined as McAvoy's best friend. But it's now been revealed that the cast also includes Evan Rachel Wood, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin Kline, and Alexis Bledel.
Wood will play Surratt's daughter Anna. Wilkinson is Aiken's mentor, senator Reverdy Johnson, who sympathises with Surratt, the only woman among the conspirators and the first woman - spoiler! - ever to be executed by the United States Federal Government, after a somewhat irregular trial.
Bledel plays Aiken's wife, and Kline is Edwin Stanton, Lincoln's war secretary.
