Carrie Fisher Joins Sorority Row

Is this what it’s come to for Princess Leia?

Carrie Fisher is in talks to join the horror flick Sorority Row, a remake of ‘80s slasher pic, The House On Sorority Row.

Fisher, who we last saw in a one-off guest spot on the wonderful 30 Rock, would play the house mother of a sorority with a dark secret. Namely, that the sorority sisters cover up the accidental death of one of their house-sisters, only to be stalked and killed – one by one, of course – by a mysterious unseen killer who has an axe (and some knives) to grind.

The rest of the cast includes Rumer Willis – who was last seen in The House Bunny, which was also about a sorority and which we’re willing to wager will be ten times more terrifying than Sorority Row – Julian Morris, Leah Pipes, Briana Evigan, Margo Harshman, Jamie Chung and Audrina Patridge, who is on a show called The Hills. Apparently.

But it’s Fisher’s casting that caught our eye and dismayed us slightly. Fisher has never been someone who appears to be driven by a need to pay the mortgage with acting gigs, so we can only surmise that her presence in this means that the script is above-average. Could Sorority Row surprise us and turn out to be quite decent (as remakes of ’80s slasher flicks go, of course?)? Or, if it turns out to be utter bobbins, will we say, ‘I know. Somehow, I’ve always known.’?

Stewart Hendler is directing the movie, which starts shooting in Pittsburgh in October.
