Robert Carlyle is set to join Emily Watson in the movie adaptation of Frank McCourt's best-selling novel, Angela's Ashes. The film, about an impoverished Irish family whose lives are laced with a heavy dose of tragedy, will be directed by Alan Parker. At one point Liam Neeson was tipped for the lead, but now Carlyle is in talks to play the part of Malachy McCourt, the shiftless alcoholic father of the family. Emily Watson, last seen in Breaking the Waves, will play his long-suffering wife.
