When she's not trying to organise Meryl Streeps social life or swanning around ornate country houses as Jane Austen, Anne Hathaway has been talking to Warner Bros about a role opposite Steve Carell in secret agent satire Get Smart.

Based on Mel Brooks' and Buck Henry's Emmy award winning 60s sitcom, Get Smart tells the tale of secret government agency CONTROL's quest to quash terror organisation KAOS. With Carell already confirmed to play the hapless Maxwell Smart, the studio is looking to Hathaway to take on the role of Agent 99.

Filming is scheduled to begin in March, with Peter Segal set to direct.
