With Empire’s newest cover stars shaping up for a colossal set-to, it’s time to add some live-action footage to the mix. Captain America: Civil War’s trailers to date had shown a little Vision thigh here, a glimpse of Black Panther ankle there, before finally spilling some of its secrets in a short-but-sweet Superbowl ad. We’ve already put together a full primer for the movie and now here’s a full rundown of the trailers so far.

The first Captain America: Civil War trailer

Captain America: Civil War's first trailer revealed that, no, all is not well among the Avengers. Former friends are divided over legislation demanding superheroes are officially registered – a kind of the ASBO for the mighty – with Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes looking likely to be a catalyst for further fall-out. "You’ve operated with unlimited power and no supervision,” William Hurt's General Thaddeus Ross, ominously informs Captain America (Chris Evans). “That’s something the world can no longer tolerate.” There were plenty of quiet character beats, as Cap picks up with his old friend Bucky, now presumably reformed from his Winter Soldiering days, and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) detecting the pre-tremors of chaos to come.

The Captain America: Civil War Super Bowl spot

There was a distinct The Dark Knight Rises vibe to Civil War’s Super Bowl spot, with chanted refrains of “Divided we fall” backdropping 30 seconds of tooling up, psyching up and lining up among fellow friends and allies. On one side was Cap, Bucky (Sebastian Stan), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd); on the other, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Vision (Paul Bettany), War Machine (Don Cheadle) and a hesitant Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). In the middle: an innocent, unsuspecting airport.
