Sometimes a story comes along that leads you to check the date to confirm that it's not April 1st. But, no, it is indeed 19th December (the advent calendar's showing a slightly anemic robin and the word of the day is perspicacious). Which means it must be at least semi-true that Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns, The Usual Freakin' Suspects) is considering directing the TV pilot for a US version of Footballers' Wives.

The British, slightly more orange, answer to Dallas has been a cult hit on US TV, so the ABC network is planning its own take based in the world of American Football, but retaining the "spirit", i.e. tackiness, of the original.

Singer is yet to sign on the dotted line, but does have a deal with ABC to produce three TV shows for the network. He is also Exec Producer on the Hugh Laurie hit House.

We're really hoping this turns out to be true, just to see what Singer might do with it and to see if the network can resist the commercial opportunity to change Chardonnay's name to Budweiser.
