Richard Linklater has found the film he wants to follow the exuberant Everybody Wants Some!!, and it's a project he's been trying to put together for a while now. He has Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell and Laurence Fishburne ready to star in an adaptation of Darryl Poniscan's novel Last Flag Flying.

The 2005 book is a sequel to Poniscan's 1970 tome The Last Detail, which itself was made into a film in 1973 by Hal Ashby, with Jack Nicholson, Randy Quaid and Otis Young starring. Linklater has been trying to get this follow-up made since at least 2006, hoping that the surviving original cast might return for this linked story.

Flag will follow the same characters, former Naval petty officers Billy Bad-Ass, Mule and former prisoner Meadows, this time with the main two trying to help Meadows bring home the body of his son. who died in the Iraq War. Linklater's currently looking for financing and distribution, and it looks like Amazon might come aboard to offer both.
