Bryan Cranston, who used to be known mostly as the dad from Malcolm In The Middle, but who has been winning awards and praise aplenty for his role in the TV show Breaking Bad, has scored a role in Andrew Stanton's live -action/CG version of John Carter Of Mars.

Stanton will kick off shooting next week on the Disney adventure film adapted from Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel series. Wolverine's Taylor Kitsch is starring as the Civil War veteran who gets mysteriously transported to the red planet.

Cranston will be playing a human colonel who comes into conflict with Carter, while the cast already also includes Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton and Polly Walker.

Suffice to say, we're eager to see what the man behind Finding Nemo and Wall-E can do with a live-action production.
