Brian Dennehy To Make Directing Debut

The great Brian Dennehy has spent the last thirty years carving out a reputation as one of the best supporting actors in the business, with gruff, no-nonsense turns in the likes of First Blood, Silverado, **F/X **and Best Seller. He’s also considered one of America’s greatest stage actors.

But what he really wants to do, it seems, is direct. And at the ripe old age of 71, he’s doing just that, with the drama, Redemption.

Based on a true story, Redemption will tell the tale of Joyce Ann Brown, a Dallas woman who spent nine years in prison after she was convicted of a fur store robbery and a murder that she didn’t commit. Her conviction was eventually quashed after a tireless campaign by a man named Jim McCloskey.

Could make for powerful stuff, even if it does have the ring of a straight-to-DVD film of the week about it. Dennehy, who has directed before on t’telly, co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Seldner, and hopes to start filming in the Spring. No word on any casting yet.
