While the movie's official site has still to announce the casting of Lara Croft, Empire Online has it on good authority that the kick-ass heroine role has been secured by Oscar winner Angelina Jolie. Jolie emerged as the front-runner to nab the part back in early March. An official press release is due out today from Paramount, putting an end to speculation over one of the most sought-after female roles in recent years. Names connected with the part have ranged from Elizabeth Hurley and Diane Lane. What nobody can be sure is whether Lara will turn out to be a career-breaking role a la Ripley in Alien or the worst career move ever - see Tank Girl.
