Are you ready for the battle of the Bernsteins? No, we don't mean that The Post has inspired a new take on Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein. The new hot biopic subject is apparently composer Leonard Bernstein, with Bradley Cooper now planning to direct and star in the simply named Bernstein.

The composer's story is certainly rich fodder for biopic treatment, given that he's one of the most famous musicians in history and produced work for the likes of West Side Story, On The Waterfront and many more, in addition to being the longtime music director of the New York Philharmonic.

Cooper has also been working on the script for the film with (coincidentally) Post co-writer Josh Singer, who had been working on it for a while. And Cooper has quite the team behind him, with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg among the producers.

He'll need the power backing as the film is in competition with The American, which has Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star and Cary Fukunaga to direct. As for Cooper's effort, he'll work on it after he finishes his directorial debut, the latest version of A Star Is Born, scenes from which got a positive response at this year's CinemaCon event.
