A Star Is Born is a story that has been told on screen a few times – to Oscar-winning effect in 1976 – and the latest version has been stuck in development limbo for years. Bradley Cooper is surprisingly the man to have dug it out, co-writing, directing and starring alongside Lady Gaga. Check out the first trailer below.

In this new take on the tragic love story, Cooper plays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers – and falls in love with – struggling artist Ally (Gaga). She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer... until Jack coaxes her into the spotlight. But even as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of their relationship is breaking down, as Jack fights an ongoing battle with his own internal demons.

Cooper certainly seems to have taken to directing quite naturally after working with some of the best in the business, and he's also got the singing thing fairly well down, though it must've been tough to be performing next to someone who does that for a living...

With Will Fetters and Eric Roth also credited on the script, the cast includes Sam Elliott, Dave Chappelle, Anthony Ramos, Bonnie Somerville and Andrew Dice Clay. A Star Is Born will be in cinemas on 5 October.
