It’s been a while since space oddity and rock superstar David Bowie graced the big screen. He appeared in a brief Zoolander cameo, but his last sizeable role was that of Andy Warhol in 1996’s Basquiat.

Now he’s back – and the man responsible for getting him on to the screen in Batman Begins director Chris Nolan.

Bowie will play Nikola Tesla, a cult inventor from the late 19th century, in Nolan’s next film The Prestige. The story chronicles warring magicians, played by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. One of them will call on Tesla for help with a trick.
