Sacha Baron Cohen's decision to return as satirical journalist Borat Sagdiyev on the big screen for the first time since 2006's original film has seen Borat Subsequent Moviefilm score plenty of praise and a host of awards and nominations. Now Amazon is planning to capitalise on the reaction to the sequel with a new special comprised of never-before-seen footage called Supplemental Recordings. And first trailer for the special is online.

Supplemental Recordings, at first glance, might just appear to be a chance to shove online a batch of deleted scenes and moments that never made it into the actual movie – after all, for every few minutes of Borat action in the final cut, there are often hours of footage still lurking on hard drives. Or, in this case, according to the special's subtitle: "Retrieved From Floor of Stable Containing Editing Machine."

Yet lurking within will be a chance to see a rare moment of Baron Cohen actually breaking character on camera, which happened during the far-right rally scene, where Borat (disguised as "Country Steve") performed a song called 'Wuhan Flu' to a crowd that eventually twigged as to his true identity – the actor, not even his character. As things turned ugly, Baron Cohen leapt into an ambulance to escape, urging the unseen driver to leave quickly.

Amazon has yet to release the date, but with Borat Subsequent Moviefilm up for two Oscars (Best Adapted Screenplay and co-star Maria Bakalova's Best Supporting Actress nod), chances are it'll be soon.
