Nick Cassavetes plans to write and direct the fact-based story of a man who tried to solve his gambling debts by planting a bomb and demanding money from a casino.

Bombing Harvey is the intriguing tale of John Birges, a former Hungarian scientist and landscape contractor in the US who was turned in by his own son, John Birges Jr, after he planted the device. The 1980 incident ended in the destruction of the casino when bomb teams detonated the explosives.

And how’s this for a pitch: Birges Jr, who served 18 months for his part in the incident, was working on the roof of production company Pelaguis Films when he asked if he could tell his story. Cassavetes and the Pelagius team will start shopping the idea around Hollywood shortly.
